Energetic & Brave

The day (yesterday) started off great! Cole was energetic, happy and talkative. We had the usual 40 minute wait at the doctors office (Cole was there to get his 4 month immunizations) where Cole tried out his ability to capture the attention of his audience. He looked around at all the kids in the waiting room and squealed, cooed and laughed at the top of his lungs. I think he got what he wanted because as soon as everyone stopped what they were doing to look at him, he smiled.

When we finally got to wait in the patient room to see the doctor, Cole was kicking his legs, swinging his arms and cracking himself up on top of the examining table as he watched himself in the mirror. The doctor came in to examine him and gave us a good report. Cole is 14.8 lbs (50%) and 26 inches tall (90 %). The doctor left and all was still good. Cole was as chipper as could be.

But then, the nurse walks in with her tray of syringes. She sticks Cole in the thigh for the first shot and he starts screaming bloody murder. She continues to give him the next three shots as fast as she can as he kicks and screams as if he's being tortured. I kept caressing his head and arms while calmly talking to him but he'd have none of it. He was upset. He gave me a look like, "Mama, how could you let them do this to me?". Anyhow it was over in a minute and it took him about 5 minutes (what seemed like an eternity) to calm down enough to get him dressed and ready to go home.
Once we got home it was back to normal life. He played, squealed, laughed, smiled and slept. We enjoyed the rest of the day together and waited for Daddy to come home.
